In 1986, the WRC led a community effort to create Rape
Response, which provided sensitive, professional
care and support to rape victims and their families.
Rape
Response evolved into a community collaboration
that became the Sexual Assault Treatment Center (SATC).
In just a year, this "standard-setting" rape care center
has evolved into a model for the treatment of rape survivors
nationally.
The
SATC is a partnership of government agencies,
law enforcement, private entities and the WRC. The Center
treats ALL rape survivors and provides the vital medicine
necessary to prevent the transmission of sexually transmitted
diseases, including HIV. The Center is currently compiling
statistics concerning all patients served for use by
law enforcement and for educational and medical purposes.
